Use of Anti-lock Brakes or Free Wheels in Mining
The freewheels are Ringspann brake systems, they prevent the return of the conveyor belts, mainly on belts that are elevated or at an angle of 40°, and their design also allows them to be used in elevators or pumps; their design includes Taconite seals that protect them from dust and dirt.
As for the Ringspann Low Speed Anti-return brakes, their main characteristics are:

- Installation on continuous shafts or shaft ends
- Ball bearings and seals
- Oil-coated, ready for installation
- Nominal torques up to 900,000 lb-ft.
- Bore diameters up to 21 inches.
Ringspann anti-return brakes can be used on the drum infeed shaft of an inclined conveyor belt, the lever is connected to the freewheel by means of pins. The return torque is transmitted via the lever to the support. And for maintenance operations, the unloaded conveyor belt can be turned in both directions by loosening the bolts.
